PORT ANGELES — A bicyclist was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after he attempted to turn in front of a vehicle at Morse Creek and was struck by a pickup, the State Patrol said.
River Yost, 21 of West Chester, Pa., was traveling eastbound on his bicycle on U.S. Highway 101 at Strait View Drive about 3:56 p.m. Wednesday when he tried to turn left in front of oncoming traffic, the State Patrol said.
The cause was a failure to yield, the agency reported.
Diane Hunt, 49, of Port Angeles was traveling westbound on Highway 101 in a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup with passengers Christopher Hunt, 54, and Craig Hunt, 73, both of Port Angeles, when the pickup struck Yost, the State Patrol said.
Yost was flown to Harborview, where he was in critical condition in the intensive care unit on Thursday, hospital spokesperson Susan Gregg said.
He was wearing a helmet, the State Patrol said.
None of the occupants of the pickup were injured. All three were wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said.
The Dodge Ram sustained reportable damage but was driven from the scene, the State Patrol said.
