PORT ANGELES — Connie Beauvais announced Tuesday that she was resigning from the Clallam County Planning Commission effective immediately.

Beauvais, who also is a Port of Port Angeles commissioner, told the Board of County Commissioners during Tuesday’s public comment period that she was stepping down after serving more than eight years on the commission.

“I thank you for the opportunity afforded to me to work on the planning commission and now I look forward to a little more time to devote to other areas of my life,” Beauvais said.

“There’s not enough of me to cover everything and for anyone who knows me, I give 115 percent to everything I do and I need a couple hours to devote to those areas.”

During her time on the commission, Beauvais has helped review the county’s Shoreline Management Program, the county’s wireless communications facilities ordinance, marijuana regulations and land use decisions.

Beauvais is seeking re-election to the Port of Port Angeles commission on the Nov. 5 ballot.

She told commissioners that as they make decisions they must weigh fairness against equality, using stormwater as an example.

“The reason I applied was because of the draft stormwater ordinance and that’s going to be coming to the planning commission and to you,” she said.

“I ask that you keep in mind that when we make ordinances that we don’t want rainwater running off your property. In Forks that’s not possible.”

Commissioners Bill Peach, Randy Johnson and Mark Ozias each thanked Beauvais for her service.

“I don’t think there is an advisory board that has more responsibility, more complexity and less actual authority than the planning commission, and that makes for a every challenging combination,” Ozias said.

“The approach that you and the other planning commissioners show is reflective of an incredibly high quality group of people.”
