Appeals of the downtown Port Angeles Farmers Market’s conditional use permit to use one block of Laurel Street on Saturdays will be heard by the City Council at 6 tonight in the council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
The city Planning Commission approved the controversial conditional use permit by a 4-3 vote early Aug. 11 following seven hours of testimony, staff reports and discussion among board members.
The decision was appealed Aug. 24 by several downtown business and property owners opposed to closing the street as well as the farmers market, itself, which objects to permit limitations.
The permit allows closure of Laurel Street between Front and First streets from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays for one more year — except during the holiday shopping months of November and December.
