Amateur radio operators host Field Day

Amateur radio operators in Clallam and Jefferson counties will have a Field Day on Saturday.

Clallam County’s 54th Emergency Communications Field Day will be at the Clallam County Fairgrounds, 1608 W. 18th St..

It will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday and operate through the night until 11 a.m. Sunday. Youth activities will be limited to 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club will host its American Radio Relay League Field Day at the Cape George Fire Hall, 3850 Cape George Road, from 9:30 a.m. Saturday to 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Clallam County’s free field day will feature games, food and the opportunity to see operational ham radio equipment and talk with the operators.

Anyone wanting to will have a chance to talk on the radio to other local, national and foreign amateur radio operators, see operational displays of different types of emergency radio gear and participate in events emphasizing family and personal preparedness is welcome, organizers said.

Entrance to the event is through the fairgrounds’ west entrance on South L Street.

The field day is sponsored by the Clallam County Amateur Radio Club and the Clallam County Amateur Radio Emergency Service.

During the Jefferson County Field Day, amateur radio operators will work with a number of communication modes including UHF, VHF and HF radio transmissions as well as numerous digital modes within these bands.

“The public is welcome to come and see how Amateur Radio functions as a means of global communications for civilians and government under simulated emergency conditions as well as under normal conditions,” organizers said.
