PORT ANGELES — About 34 percent of Clallam County ballots are ready to count, a low number according to Auditor Cathleen McKeown.
Of the 44,105 ballots that were sent out as of Wednesday, 14,971 have been processed and are ready to scan, McKeown said.
Of the ballots received by Clallam County elections officials, 88 had signature problems and 617 have been returned because the voter no longer lives at the address, McKeown said.
She attributed low numbers to a variety of factors, including few contested local races, negative campaigns and confusion over ballot initiatives.
“I know they have confused a lot of people,”‘ McKeown said.
Ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 7 to count in the all mail-in election.

* Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. A drive-up drop box is provided.
* Sequim Motor Vehicle Licensing Office, 1001 E. Washington St., Sequim.
* Forks District Court, 500 E. Division St., Forks. An outdoor drop box is provided.
