There are many reasons why I haven’t had a child yet. One, it scares the crap out of me. Two, it’s probably going to hurt like hell. So it’s very possible that my knowledge of pregnancy is made up of true and false facts. But today I’m going to set the record straight and separate the fact from fiction.
PREGNANCY MYTH #1 Your skin glows during pregnancy
TRUE. Your blood flow increases during pregnancy, giving your complexion more colour. Pregnancy hormones can also cause the skin’s sebaceous glands to release sebum which makes the skin look shiny. A combination of the two can make skin look like it’s glowing.
PREGNANCY MYTH #2 Some skin care products aren’t safe for pregnant women.
TRUE. It’s best to steer clear of skin care products that contain retnoids and salyicylic acid. Most mums find it safest to switch to natural products. PREGNANCY MYTH #6 Pregnant women can’t sleep on their stomach
FALSE. Obstetrician and gynecologist Catherine Lynch says, “There’s no problem lying on your stomach in early pregnancy. At this point, your uterus is still nestled behind your pubic bone, so it’s totally protected. Later in your pregnancy, sleeping on your stomach just isn’t going to be comfortable. You’d be too uncomfortable to want to do it long before you could ever hurt your baby.”
