No pregnancy glow for Lara Stone

As it turns out, pregnancy can be pretty darn hard for 5 ft. 10 supermodels too.

In an interview with the British Sunday Times, Dutch supermodel Lara Stone confesses that she hated being pregnant. She hated what it did to her body, she hated that it effected her work and she hated that it left her with nothing to do but sit around at home. 

Pregnancy began to effect Lara quite early on, and she was wearing maternity jeans at just 10 weeks. “It was quite frightening seeing my body change so much,” she tells the Sunday Times. 

The changes didn’t stop there. Shortly after she announced her pregnancy to the public, Lara arrived at a shoot and was told she was no longer needed. “I no longer had a job. That was it – I had to just stop everything that I knew, the way my life was.” Before she had even had her three-month scan, Lara was unable to work. 

But Lara hasn’t done too badly post pregnancy. Just over a year after giving birth to her son, Alfred Walliams, she regained her killer bod and was made the face of L’Oréal Paris. Maybe she is superhuman, after all. 

What does Lara’s experience teach us? Many women gloss over the hard parts of pregnancy and while we agree that the gift you receive nine months later is well worth it all, maybe we should be looking at how we can support women who are having a tough time by being more honest about pregnancy.
