Martha Stewart has lived a very interesting life so far. It’s safe to say her knowledge spans a lot of subjects – and yes, beauty is definitely one of them.

She may have built her epic career around making the home look beautiful, but she’s also an oracle when it comes to doing the same for your hair, makeup and skin.

So in the spirit of looking as good as Martha, we’ve rounded up our five favourite gems of advice…

Martha Stewart’s Beauty Secrets

1: Use scotch tape for smooth skin

For Martha, sometimes stationery doubles as skin care. “Quite a few years ago I noticed two lines between my eyebrows, vertical lines. [Someone] said ‘just put scotch tape on your face every single night between your eyes and you will not have those lines’. And I did. I did it religiously”, she shared on her podcast, The Martha Stewart Podcast.

2: Apply eyeshadow as lipstick

Yep, you read that right. Martha’s makeup artist Daisy Toye shared with Page Six that because Martha “loves gold” and “loves a bronzy glow”, she “even puts gold eyeshadows on her lips and it looks fabulous”. Obsessed!

3: Drink green juice for glowy skin

“I grow all the greens for my green juice, which I drink every single day. Thus, good skin,” Martha once explained via an Instagram video.

The recipe varies a little based on what’s growing best in her garden, but celery, cucumber, parsley, spinach and green pear are often in the mix, sometimes with some pineapple, papaya or mango to sweeten.

4: Pick products with sturdy packaging

“I love the Tom Ford line—his stuff is sturdy, so it doesn’t break when you drop it. You know, you spend $50 on something, and you don’t want it to break if it falls in the sink. I have the Tom Ford Eye Color Quad in ‘Golden Mink’ ($160 at David Jones) that I use on my brow bone,” Martha explained to Into The Gloss.

5: Don’t shy away from affordable formulas

Martha appreciates a beauty bargain as much as we do. Her makeup artist Daisy Toye even told People that a pharmacy highlighter was the secret behind her glossy glow on her iconic Sports Illustrated cover. And we have to agree: the L’Oreal Paris Lumi Glotion ($19.99 at Chemist Warehouse) is truly a great product. “I use it every day on her. I go through a tube every week. It’s how she gets that dewy look, like she just got a facial”, Daisy confessed.

  1. 1. Sticky tape? No thanks.
    2. I repurposed a purple eyeliner pencil with poor coverage as a lip liner.
    3. Green juice – yes, I drink wheatgrass once or twice a day.
    4. I wish I could afford eyeshadow that doesn’t break in the sink, haha!
    5. A tube of highlighter a week! OMG! It does look nice, though.

  2. Scott tape; this sounds cool. I do like the other tip about sturdy packaging. I’m forever transporting things to and from the gym, in my car etc. If some items get crushed they are useless.

  3. So on one hand she’s drinking greens juice being healthy, then putting plastic tape on her face all night to absorb plastic chemicals into her skin. That’s crazy.
