Living in the shadows

Living in the shadows

As I reached for my regular Almay eyeshadow palette this morning, I stopped myself. I love this palette, it houses the perfect illuminating champagne base colour and opens my eye right up. But as much as I love this particular shade on my peepers, was I becoming like a needy girlfriend, way too dependent?

I think so.

Often we find ourselves doing that a lot in beauty – playing it safe, sticking to what we know. But let me tell you, you’re not going to pull any compliments (and in turn, feel 100 per cent better about yourself on a rotten day) unless you pull yourself out of the ordinary and have a little fun with your face.

I bet you my whole cupboard of serums and scrubs that if you do something different and say, sport a turquoise or lilac liner across your lash line to work next week, you’ll receive at least two compliments on your look. Your colleagues will think you’re creative and confident (even if you don’t always feel it yourself!)

But the weekends are really your time to shine. If you’re partial to all shades beginning with ‘B’ – I’m talking beige, brown, bronze etc – you’re like me, a ‘Neutral Nancy’ – and you need a colour injection, stat.

So why not give a MAC Mineralize Shadows a go? They’re gleamy and shimmery in all the right places, and are sure to have you centre of attention at that party, no sweat! My faves are Gilt By Association (mineralize black with gold bronze pearl) and Young Punk (mineralize black with pinkish purple pearl).

What colour shadow do you currently sport a little too often?
Which colour would you love to rock?
