Ah, the early 2000s…
You might think glamorous women like Kate Hudson would be immune to major beauty mistakes. She’s nailed the neutral lip combo and the art of keeping blonde hair healthy, so she’s obviously golden across the board, right?
We’d argue the case, however, that nobody makes it out of their 20s without some shockers. And Kate would agree…
Kate Hudson’s makeup regret
Everyone has beauty regrets; even Kate Hudson. In fact, she looks back and laughs at a certain eye makeup application technique that she claims left her looking less like a Hollywood starlet and more like a sea creature…
“In the early aughts, my outlook was almost too casual, to the point where I cared so much to be casual that I’d say, “I’m not going to get dressed up,” but I’d do just a rim of black liner and a flush of color, and that was it — no mascara,” she shared in a conversation with InStyle.
“I looked like a hammerhead shark because my eyes were so far apart”, she laughed. “It was just the inner black liner. No brow, super simple. But that’s changed now. That was in my early 20s.”

Kate Hudson’s beauty evolution
“Then, in my 30s, I started to want to put more effort in. I wanted to show up when I went out, put on the things I love, get my hair blown out, and care a little more.”
“But I also think when you’re in the mum phase, you just throw your hair in a bun, trying to figure it out as fast as possible. And now I’m back, and I’m going to take the time to put an outfit together. So, it goes through phases.”

Is there a beauty phase you went through that you look back on and laugh at?
I’ve never done anything too extreme regarding my appearance, it was a stage when I just wanted short hair but this doesn’t suit me.
Me either, but I did say to my adult children that when my grey hair starts showing perhaps I should go green or purple??
Yes my teenage years! I would cake on the foundation. Now I take the less is more approach
I have a photo with one eyebrow more plucked than the other!
Oh Yes I have been there !!
yes that is so easy to do
So many different phases -Yuk !!
I feel like its just normal. We were all just learning.
I was a lucky kid where my Mum worked in a pharmacy but the only makeup she ever used was lipstick so all the freebies she would get she gave to me. I was playing about with makeup from the age of 10. Now many years later I love makeup and all the amazing colours. I refuse to follow the rules and make my own and I often get positive comments on my eye makeup looks. Actually I had one the other day when i went for a medical appointment. They woman there was raving on about my eye shadow and how I had used 3 colours. She thought it looked amazing and said she wished that she was that talented. I was a little stunned as I have never looked at it as a talent but I guess it is.
Yes talent and confidence !! Good on you x
Pink and Purple eyeshadow together. Yes you read right.
hey if done subtlely that could be very pretty
I vote that that’s OK. I’d even add magenta to the mix, haha!
Dark purple lipstick lol
Shut up, @Shop A! There’s nothing wrong with that! (Yes, I’m still doing it, haha!)
I went for really dark red almost black -what was I thinking !!
I’ve always been pretty minimal, so I’ve never really made any ghastly mistakes.
In my early 20s it was probably too much eyeshadow. These days I rarely use any.
She’s never looked bad a day in her life!
I do this sometimes… yikes. Have I been looking like a hammerhead?
I love that she is happy to laugh at herself. That’s lovely.
Yes she is natural and easy to like
I thought the hammerhead shark reference could have been related to a hairstyle! Haha! I hate to admit this about lovely Kate, but I see what she means in the pics.
My faux pas was wearing bright, multicoloured eyeshadow with a bold lip – but that was the 80s look that everyone did back then. I regret overplucking my brows in the 90s, too.
yes she did look a bit sharky but hindsight is a good thing
She has a long pointed jaw and with narrow eyes it did look sharky but she always looks lovely
lol at the hammerhead shark comment!
yes nice to be able to laugh at yourself
I still remember how I put too much foundation on my skin.
In my teenage years I loved to play around with makeup especially eyeshadow. I use very little these days.
Thankfully I don’t have any real regrets regarding make-up.
Life’s cycles affect what time you have t care for yourself, especially when you have kids
I had a 5 second run of heavy lined eyes…like black! Eek!
Foundation, eye-liner and mascara – nothing else. I looked so washed out. There was no warmth.
This product is very great hhaexchange provider login
I used to use way too much foundation, it was such a heavy look, but I know why I did it, because I was trying to cover up my horribly blemished skin. I probably made it worse for my skin as it probably couldn’t breathe with all that foundation.
