How-to: fill in your brows with powder

Recently we (along with the extremely talented brow artist Jazz Pampling) showed you how to fill in your brows with a pencil.

Well, now the time has come to give you the lowdown on how to use a brow powder to fill in and define your brows.

Though both a brow pencil and powder work to achieve definition, there is a difference between using the two. A powder will give your brows a more natural (yet still defined) finish while a pencil gives a more powerful effect. Watch on to find out Jazz’s tips for using a brow powder.

Your tools

To create a natural finish using brow powder, you’ll need an angled eyeliner or eyebrow brush, a spoolie (or unused mascara wand), and a brow powder that’s the same shade or slightly lighter than your natural brow hair. If you go too dark, you lose that whole natural effect.

Start by defining the edges

Apply your brow powder (Jazz used ash blonde on me) right to the edge lines of the brow. Start by defining the bottom line and then moved to define the top line.

Fill in the middle

Once the top line is done, gently flick your brush through the middle of your brow, trying to recreate the shape of a strand of hair.

Brush as you go

Make sure to brush your brows up and into shape with the spoolie as you go.

The inner edges

Instead of reloading your brush, use the excess powder to fill in the inner edges of your brows.

Fix the gaps

If you’ve got any big gaps or sparse areas, use a slightly darker brow powder to fill them in. If you find you need to do this, it’s best to invest in a brow palette that features a few shades for you to mix and match.

Brush into place

Now that you’ve filled in your brows, take your spoolie and brush the hairs up and out into place.

Last-minute touch-ups

If you’ve made any mistakes or gone ‘out of the lines’, use concealer on a small brush to straighten the lines – just make sure to blend it out.
