Ladies it’s time to step into the Twilight zone. Yep, today marks the release of the hotly anticipated vampire flick that takes dark romance to a whole new level.
For those of you who’ve been dead to the world, quick recap: it’s the Stephanie Meyer novel that’s caused a stir worldwide; think Romeo & Juliet for the goth generation with rebellious vampire and shy school girl to boot. It’s already scored more than $195 million at the US box office so is sure to have us Aussies sucked in; but of course it’s what it means beauty wise that we’re interested in: black is back.
We’ve known this ever since Givenchy and YSL’s autumn/winter 08 collections had us drooling but I for one am so excited – the classic black eye is one smokin’ hot look but dare I sport a glassy black lip? I think I just might. I do dare to dare after all.
Take heed from the queen of goth-chic Carine Roitfeld (the Editor-in-chief of fashion bible French Vogue can do no wrong) and turn to the dark side with these black beauties:
Make Up Store Lipstick in Black Orchid – contains avocado oil to moisturise lips. Finish with a slick of minty fresh Elizabeth Arden Crystal Clear Lip Gloss and you’re laughing (a very evil cackle of course).
Bloom Nail Polish in Daria – two coats of this baby and nails are the blackest black you could wish for. Looks divine on your tootsies.
MAC Eye Shadow in Black Tied – a midnight black with a silver white sparkle, très, très chic.
p.s. Yes, yes I haven’t gone stark raving mad, I know we’re in the middle of summer (well, we would be if the Sydney sunshine would get it’s butt into gear), so if you don’t fancy stepping over to the dark side just yet check out our summer lovin’ issue for some colourful characters!
