PORT HADLOCK — An author who focuses on the strange and unusual will speak at the Jefferson County Library at 3:45 p.m. Oct. 14.
“I get paid for being weird,” author Kelly Milner Halls has been quoted as saying.
Before the free public presentation, Halls, a single mother from Spokane who has a 4-foot-long pet rock iguana named Gigantor, will visit with students in grades 3-5 at Chimacum School.
A writer for young readers, Halls tackles such high-interest topics as animals, ghosts, aliens, mummies, dinosaurs and ghosts.
“I’d always been the weird kid,” she said, “the kid who asked too many questions, the kid who couldn’t stop talking to her neighbors, the kid who couldn’t find a book she wanted to read.”
After a decade, during which she wrote more than 1,000 articles for magazines and newspapers, Halls began writing books 15 years ago.
She now has 40 titles to her credit, mostly nonfiction.
Her three most recent books in the “To the Rescue” series are fictional.
All ages are welcome.
