Surf Day
LAPUSH — The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation’s International Surf Day celebration will be Friday and Saturday at First Beach.
A free barbecue, party and outdoor screening of local surf movies will begin at 6 p.m. at First Beach in LaPush.
A beach cleanup and another barbecue are scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Composting workshop
SEQUIM — A free backyard composting workshop is planned on Saturday.
Volunteers with Master Composters of Clallam County will demonstrate techniques for turning food scraps and yard waste into compost at the workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washington State University Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden at 2711 Woodcock Road in Sequim.
The city of Port Angeles solid waste division is sponsoring the workshop with assistance from the Master Composters and the state Department of Ecology coordinated grant program.
No pre-registration is necessary.
Copies of a booklet, Home Composting Made Easy, will be available at no charge.

Joy in dance
PORT ANGELES — The Performing Company of Pioneer Dance Arts will hold its Festival of Dance tonight and Saturday.
The theme for the performances is “Joy.”
Both will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Port Angeles High School auditorium, 304 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles.
The 90-minute show will feature three acts and a variety of dance styles. Performers will include clowns, tap dancers, singers, hip-hop and jazz and modern dancers.
Musical selections will include “Make ‘Em Laugh,” “Joyful, Joyful,” “Walking on Sunshine,” “Joy To The World,” “Let’s Shout,” “Back On Top,” “I Just Want To Celebrate,” “Listen To Music,” “Small Town” and “Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World.”
Tickets are $10 for students and senior citizens, and $12 for adults.
They can be purchased in Port Angeles at Swain’s General Store, 602 E. First St., and in Sequim at Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St.
Tickets will be available at the door.

Chamber music
PORT TOWNSEND — The Olympic Youth Strings, aka OYStrs, under the direction of Alan Rawson, will present a chamber music concert of classical music today.
The performance will be at 3:30 p.m. at Seaport Landing, 1201 Hancock St., Port Townsend.
OYStrs students include violinists Madeline Levy of Port Townsend, Sydney Sharpe of Port Ludlow, Kim and Christina Walters of Chimacum and keyboardist Elizabeth McKinnon of Port Townsend.
A donation of $5 is suggested.

Printmaker to speak
PORT TOWNSEND — A printmaking instructor will speak and give a demonstration at Fort Worden State Park this weekend.
Elizabeth Dove will be the guest speaker during a Corvidae Press presentation in Building 204 at Fort Worden State Park at 7 p.m. today.
The talk is free and open to the public.
Dove also will give a demonstration in Building 205 at Fort Worden at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The demonstration costs $45 per person.
Dove, who lives in Missoula, Mont., is an associate professor in the department of art at the University of Montana. She teaches photography, printmaking and digital media.
Her research has been published in The Contemporary Printmaker and Printmaking Today.

Shredding documents
SEQUIM — Outdated, confidential information can be safely thrown away during a free community paper shredding on Saturday.
Shredding will be available at the Sequim Village Marketplace Branch of First Federal Savings & Loan, 1201 W. Washington St., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
LeMay Mobile Shredding will shred old tax returns, account statements or any paperwork with account numbers, social security numbers or other personal information at no charge.
The event is sponsored by the Sequim Village Marketplace branch of First Federal.
First Federal security personnel will be available to answer questions and provide information on identity theft.
Men’s health expo
PORT ANGELES — A free expo on men’s health is planned on Sunday.
Family Planning of Clallam County’s third annual Men’s Health & Fitness Expo will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Laurel Lanes, 108 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles.
Information will be available about men’s health care and fitness issues, including substance abuse, tobacco cessation, sexually transmitted diseases, risk reduction, cancer screenings and contraception.
Also offered will be free bowling, door prizes, food and neck and shoulder massages, courtesy of Sorensen Chiropractic.
