Tides of March
PORT TOWNSEND — The sixth annual Tides of March auction is Saturday.
The auction to benefit the Port Townsend Marine Science Center will be at 5 p.m. at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 4907 Landes St.
Among the items up for bid will be a cruise for six people from Port Townsend to Seattle on the MV Olympus, a 92-foot fantail motor yacht built in 1929.
The trip, which includes a four-course gourmet dinner, is scheduled on Sunday, Sept. 12.
Examples of other items are a halibut fishing trip; five nights at a guest house in Santa Fe, N.M.; a whale-watching cruise to Friday Harbor; and several theme dinners.
Twenty chefs will donate appetizers for the “Chef Showcase.”
Tickets will be available at the door for $40.

Memorial concert
PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will present a free concert in memory of two Chinese students who died in a car wreck in December.
The concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday.
It will be at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park St.
Duo Li, 20, of Nanning, China, and Chi-Kan Cheung, 21, of Hong Kong were killed in a wreck on U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles on Dec. 12.
Both were students at Peninsula College.
Performing in the concert will be the Chamber Choir, Peninsula College Singers, Early Music Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble.
‘Family Treasures’
SEQUIM — “Preserving Your Family Treasures” will be discussed by Kathy Monds, the executive director of the Clallam County Historical Society, at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The event at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., will be presented by the Clallam County Genealogical Society.
Monds will show how to preserve and handle paper, fabrics, photographs and other family items.

St. Patrick’s Dinner
PORT ANGELES — Mount Pleasant Grange, 2432 Mount Pleasant Road, will serve its traditional corned beef and cabbage St. Patrick’s Dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Washington Old Time Fiddlers will provide music. An auction and raffle fundraiser to benefit the Mount Pleasant Grange building fund is planned.

Humane Society benefit
PORT TOWNSEND — “A Curry for the Furry,” a benefit for the Humane Society of Jefferson County, will be held at the Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The benefit will offer northern India vegetarian cuisine, a pick-a-prize auction and music from the Good Vibes DJ services.
Sheriff Tony Hernandez will be presented with an award acknowledging his service to the shelter and animals of Jefferson County.
Admission is $20 per person with advance tickets available at Quimper Sound, 230 Taylor St., or the Jefferson County Animal Shelter, 112 Critter Lane, which is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Open house
PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Christian High School plans an open house today.
The school at 116 E. Ahlvers Road in Port Angeles will welcome the public from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The school’s choir will perform from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
A free car wash is planned from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Games and activities are planned.
Wellness and safety fair
PORT TOWNSEND — The third annual Jefferson County Wellness and Safety Fair will be held at Blue Heron Middle School, 3939 San Juan Ave., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Vendor booths in the main gym will offer information on a variety of topics as well as free health screening services.
Special presenters will be featured on the main stage in the Commons area and Mexican food from Bub’s Tacos-Fresh, baked goods from On Common Grounds and snacks from the Rhododendron Festival Royalty will be sold in the cafeteria.
Many booths will offer free samples.
Main-stage presentations will be offered by:
• Dr. Kimber Rotchford of Olympic Pain and Addiction Service with “Part of the Problem or Part of the Solution — Medication for Pain” at 11:30 a.m.
• Gary Fell from the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management with “When All Else Fails” at 12:30 p.m.
• Dr. Paul Cunningham, a family physician and geriatrician for the Jamestown Family Health Clinic in Sequim and the medical director of Assured Hospice of Clallam and Jefferson County and of Avamere Olympic Rehabilitation of Sequim, will present “Advanced Directives: Taking Control of Your Health Care” at 1:30 p.m.
• Barbara Henry, an orchestra teacher in the Port Townsend School District and director of the YMCA Family orchestra, will bring the family orchestra for a musical set and an “Instrument Petting Zoo” which will allow the public to try out instruments for fit and sound.
Veggie garden
SEQUIM — Henery’s Garden Center, 1060 Sequim-Dungeness Way, will host a class on vegetable gardening at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Topics covered will include planning, location, soil and seed selection, and planting and maintaining the garden.
The class is presented by the Clallam County Master Gardeners.

Benefit breakfast
SEQUIM — The Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital will hold a benefit pancake breakfast at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
A donation of $5 is requested.
Proceeds will help the hospital provide medical services to families which do not have sufficient insurance coverage or cannot afford the cost of care provided to their children.
Last year, more than 1,700 children from Clallam County received care from Seattle Children’s Hospital and more than 800 received the benefit of uncompensated care from the hospital.
Clallam County guilds raised more than $109,000 last year for the hospital.

Audition workshop
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Light Opera Association will hold a workshop before auditions begin for its summer production of “Oklahoma!” from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today.
The workshop will be at the Port Angeles Light Opera Association’s Center, 522 Mount Pleasant Road.
The cost is $10. The workshop includes essentials for a successful theater audition from director Richard Stephens and conductor Kristin Quigley Brye, followed by an experience similar to an actual Port Angeles Light Opera Association audition.
Auditions for “Oklahoma!” will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 19, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 20, with callbacks at 1 p.m. at the center.
