UPDATE: Season’s first Port Townsend Concert on the Dock features Navy combo — at a change of venue

TONIGHT’S PORT TOWNSEND CONCERT ON THE DOCK EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE GARDEN TENT AT THE BISHOP VICTORIAN HOTEL.

Bishop owner Joe Finnie is providing this emergency last-minute shelter for our concert, the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce advises.

EARLIER STORY:

THE INAUGURAL 2008 Concert on the Dock in Port Townsend tonight will feature a Navy ensemble noted for the variety of music it plays.

Passages, Navy Band Northwest’s contemporary entertainment ensemble, strikes the downbeat at 6 p.m. for the two-hour concert in the Quincy Street Dock area off Water Street.

The stage is adjacent to the Water Street Brewing at the end of Quincy Street.

Bring your dancing shoes — or a lawn chair to sit on if you want to just tap your toes.

Admission is free. All ages are welcome.

Passage is noted for its high energy while playing today’s popular music as well as a repertoire of pop, rhythm and blues, dance, Motown, classic rock, soul, hip-hop, swing, country and disco tunes spanning 50 years.

Bring a picnic basket

This is the first of the 10 outdoor Concerts on the Dock in the Quincy Street Dock area every Thursday through Sept. 4.

Arrive by 5:45 p.m. for one of the limited number of chairs, bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Tote a picnic basket or grab some food from a downtown store or restaurant.

Music fans can bring non-alcoholic drinks, or listen to the concerts while eating and drinking indoors at Water Street Brewing & Ale House, or in its outdoor beer garden.

There is plenty of parking in the area.

The outdoor concerts are sponsored by the Peninsula Daily News, First Federal, Puget Sound Energy, Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce, Ancestral Spirits Gallery and individual band sponsors.

Tonight’s sponsor is the Port Townsend Elks Lodge 317.
