PORT ANGELES — With something for rockhounds of all ages and lapidary interests, the Clallam County Gem & Mineral Association’s Rock, Gem & Jewelry Show returns for a two-day show.
The club hosts its annual event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10-11, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Admission is free.
Event activities
The club sees a variety of returning vendors offering rocks, minerals, crystals and fossils from around the world, along with some new vendors featuring Ethiopian opals and a vendor offering a new “twist” on presenting driftwood.
Younger attendees are invited to enjoy Rock Alley, where they can get a free rock and play games. New games have been added to the show’s offerings.
As in previous years, the club hosts raffles that can win attendees specimen rocks, one-of-a kind jewelry pieces made by club members, lapidary equipment and supplies, and other items donated by vendors.
One does not need to be present to win.
Back by popular demand are grab bags filled with polished stones.
Those who pick a bag that contains a silver or gold rock win selection of a special item from the prize table.
Attendees are encouraged to stop by the cabochon making, rock polishing and rock faceting demonstrations on-going during the show.
Club members will be demonstrating lapidary equipment and sharing their expertise with show attendees.
Added for this show are display boxes showing rocks found on the Olympic Peninsula, and samples of rock carvings and a box highlighting Clallam County Gem & Mineral Association Lapidary Shop activities.
Flyers will be offered for a reduced-price subscription to Rock And Gem magazine.
