Salvation Army offers meal on Thanksgiving Eve

Additional free community fests to be offered today

PORT ANGELES — The Salvation Army’s Thanksgiving Eve community feast on Wednesday was the first of such free public meals offered during the holiday.

Some 80 people gathered at the Salvation Army facility at 202 S. Peabody St. in Port Angeles, according to Captain Crystal Birks, the officer in charge.

Free public meals are planned today in Port Angeles, Sequim and Chimacum. A holiday meal also is planned in Brinnon.

• A free public Thanksgiving meal will be offered at the Queen of Angels Church gym from noon to 3 p.m. today.

The traditional Thanksgiving dinner at 209 W. 11th St. in Port Angeles is free, but donations will be accepted at the event or prior to it. Those who are home-bound can have meals delivered.

• Holiday Meals of Jefferson County is serving a free community Thanksgiving dinner from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. today.

The dinner will be served at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road.

The meals consist of roasted turkey, vegetables, gravy, cranberry sauce, fresh rolls and dessert.

• VFW Post 1760 (Sequim) and Sun Taxi will host their annual free turkey dinner for the community today.

The meal is set from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the VFW annex at 169 E. Washington St.

• The Brinnon Senior Organization will host a holiday meal at 5 p.m. Friday.

The meal will be served at the Brinnon Community Center, 306144 U.S. Highway 101.

Attendees should RSVP by calling 360-796-4350 or emailing jsimmons@olycap.org.

The meal costs $10 per person, $5 for youths 10 and younger.
