Summer festivals, car shows and barbecues are blossoming over the North Olympic Peninsula.
Here’s a sample of entertainment available this weekend.
Road kill barbecue
CHIMACUM — Alligator stew, buffalo burgers and a while sheep on a spit will be among the treats at the Chimacum Grange’s first annual Road Kill Barbecue.
The barbecue will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the grange hall at 9572 Rhody Dr., Chimacum.
The Road Kill Barbecue is the first of series of fundraisers for the Grange, whose members are raising money to renovate their building.
The barbecue will feature exotic meat that Judi Stewart, grange president, is shipping in from all over the county.
Grilled rattlesnake will be among the offerings. Emu tenders and goat kabobs are possibilities.
More mundane food, such as chicken and hamburgers, also will be served, along with baked beans, coleslaw and other side dishes, plus drinks and dessert.
The cost will be $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 years old and younger.
Fly-in Saturday
FORKS — The 18th annual Forks Fly-In and Salmon Bake, originally scheduled for July 26, has been moved up a week to this weekend.
Pat Soderland, city events coordinator, said the organizer Gary Jennings changed the date to Saturday.
It will be at the Forks Municipal Airport.
An exhibit of antique cars and hot rods, as well as a display of old tractors and a flea market are planned.
The salmon bake will be at 11 a.m. It will cost $10 a plate
Band concert
SEQUIM — Sanford Feibus will direct the next free band concert at the James Center for the Performing Arts, north of Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Road, at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The band will perform patriotic music, including songs from The Association and “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Participants are encouraged to bring chairs to sit on.
‘Cruz-In’ fundraiser
PORT ANGELES — The third annual Hot Rod, Custom & Classic Car Cruz-In fundraiser will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Cars will be on display at Puerto De Angeles Mexican restaurant, 940 E. First St.; Cowboy Country, 923 E. First St.; and Jace The Real Estate Co., 933 E. First St.
The Mexican restaurant will offer an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Cowboy Country will have an outdoor sale and rootbeer floats for sale.
Jace will host an open house and a coloring contest for children.
There will also be a door prize giveaway and a raffle drawing for a hot-rod pedal car.
Sixteen plaques we be awarded to Cruz-In participants.
All proceeds from the gathering will go to scholarships for Port Angeles High School seniors in memory of Darlene Marihugh.
This year’s scholarship recipient was Rachael Cannon, who received $2,000.
