Author of the bestselling Twilight saga Stephenie Meyer has given her only interview of the year to Oprah Winfrey, and the show will air at 4 p.m. Friday on NBC.
Meyer, whose four-novel series of vampires and teen love are set in Forks, announced the interview on her Web site, www.stephenie meyer.com.
“I’ve been doing the hermit thing this last year, insofar as media is concerned, and I’m not changing that now, but I am making an exception,” she said.
“I’m doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazedand thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with ‘New Moon’ that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him.
“And since I’m only doing one interview, better make it big. Really big.”
Weitz is the director of the second installment in the movie versions of Meyer’s books.
“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” will be released Nov. 20.
Screenings one minute after midnight Nov. 19 are scheduled in both Port Angeles and Port Townsend.
Advance tickets will not be available for the screening at the Lincoln Theatre, 132 E. First St., in Port Angeles. Tickets will be sold for the movie, which will be on two screens and which will be prefaced by a showing of “Twilight” on one screen, at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 19.
Tickets will be available online and at the Rose Theatre, 235 Taylor St., in Port Townsend beginning Monday.
Twilight, which is set primarily in Forks with cameos in Port Angeles, tells the first part of the story of Bella Swan and her vampire suitor, Edward Cullen.
In New Moon, Bella’s best friend, Jacob Black, makes a bid for her heart as well creating an adventurous love triangle for the Forks teens.
Meyer chose Forks for the locale because of its famously rainy weather — which provides proper cover for the vampires who become iridescent and sparkle in the sunlight, revealing their supernatural tendencies.
Since the release of the books, which have become international bestsellers, Forks has had a host of international media publicity.
Showtime will provide another venue to display Forks next year, said Mike Gurling, Forks Visitor Center manager.
The premium movie channel has obtained the rights to show “Twilight” next year, and will be filming a special segment to introduce it with real footage from the town.
“We are really excited about what they want to do,” Gurling said.
“They said they want to spend three full days here really getting the feel of what the real Forks is like.”
