NOLS to host ‘The Boys in the Boat’ discussions

SEQUIM — The North Olympic Library System will host special discussions — one in person, one virtual — of “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown.

Meet Sequim Library staff and other readers for the book discussion from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday in downtown Sequim at Locally Known Cowork, 112 W. Washington St. From 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, an online discussion will be on Zoom; visit nols.org/boys-boat for event details and the Zoom link. No registration is needed.

“The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics,” a book chronicling the University of Washington rowing team’s journey to represent the United States at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, was published in 2013, and in part centers the true story around former Sequim resident Joe Rantz.

Brown was a neighbor of Rantz, and their discussions led to him authoring the eventual national best bestseller.

Paperback copies of the book for participants to keep are available to pick up at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., while supplies last. Additional copies and other formats are available for checkout, including large print books, audiobooks on CD, eBooks and eAudiobooks.

For more information about this book discussion and other library programs, visit nols.org, call 360-417-8500 or email to discover@nols.org. This program is funded in part by Friends of Sequim Library.
