More than 950 local students receive supplies at back-to-school event

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School District hosted a Back to School event at Jefferson Elementary School on Aug. 7.

The annual event provided school information as well as backpacks and school supplies for more than 950 local students.

Although hosted by the school district, the event is organized by Lutheran Community Services Northwest in cooperation with other local service organizations.

More than 50 volunteers pooled their efforts to conduct the event.

Vendors providing information, services or family-friendly activities included Port Angeles Food Bank, Olympic Peninsula Healthy Community Coalition, Clallam County League of Women Voters, Clallam County Literacy Council, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Rainbow Girls, Molina Health Care, Darlene Clemons/Mind in the Making, Vanir Construction Management, North Olympic Library System, OlyCap Health Services, WalMart Vision Center and Olympic Peninsula Community Clinic.

Port Angeles schools will open for the 2019-20 school year Tuesday.
