Feather Palooza to serve up poultry information

CHIMACUM — Feather Palooza will offer a day of information about raising chickens, ducks, turkeys and other feathered birds at the Chimacum Grange on Saturday.

The regional event will be from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the grange hall at 9572 Rhody Drive in Chimacum.

Admission is free, but registration is requested at www.feather palooza.com.

The conference-style event will provide farmers, hobbyists and foodies a lineup of presentations, demonstrations and workshops, as well as food vendors and activities for children.

All 50 of the available reserved seats have been taken. Additional registrants — up to 100 — will receive VIP bags with special offers and coupons but will not have reserved seating for keynote presentations.

Schedule of speakers

Here is the schedule:

• 10 a.m. — Ross Robb of CHS Nutrition will speak on “Complete Poultry Diets.”

• 11 a.m. — Jefferson County 4-H Club presentations downstairs and James Hermes of Oregon State University will speak upstairs on “Choosing the Right Birds: Heritage, Fancy or Commercial.”

• 1 p.m. — Scratch & Peck Feed will present information on fermenting whole grain feed for optimizing chickens’ health, while the Jefferson County 4-H Club presentations are downstairs.

• 2 p.m. — Brooke Lucas of the USDA will speak on “Farm Biosecurity: Keeping the Flock Healthy” while Doyle Yancey of Egg and I Gardens will talk downstairs of locally grown grains.

• 3 p.m. — Cameron Denning of Finnriver Farm will speak downstairs on “Poultry for Weed Management.”

• 3:15 p.m. — John Bellow of Springrain Farm & Orchard will speak on “Sustainable Poultry Processing.”
