Busy weekend ahead for our Peninsula

There’s plenty to do on the North Olympic Peninsula this weekend.

To help you plan, here are highlights of what’s coming up:

* Today through Sunday: Victoria Express presents Strait Thunder Hydro Races in Port Angeles Harbor.

For the third consecutive year, unlimited light hydroplanes take to the water at speeds of up to 165 mph.

Boats arrive today; races are Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, “Street Thunder 2005” — featuring a variety of makes and models of motorcycles — will take place along North Lincoln Street and Railroad Avenue on Saturday and Sunday.

Information: 360-417-6797; www.straitthunder.com.

* Saturday: Helicopter Hole-In-One.

Numbered golf balls corresponding to ticket numbers are dropped by a helicopter hovering over a golf cup at SunLand Golf & Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive, Sequim, at 5:30 p.m.

The person with the ticket number of the golf ball that makes a hole-in-one or gets closest to the cup wins a Kawasaki 550 Mule; second closest, $1,000; third, $500.

The event benefits Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army soup kitchen.

Helicopter Hole-In-One tickets are $3 each and are still available from PA Power Equipment, 2624 E. Highway 101, Port Angeles, and Windermere Real Estate offices in Port Angeles, Sequim and Sunland.

Information: 360-582-8326 (pager for Doc Reiss).
