SEQUIM — A blessing of the animals service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
The service will be in front of Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim, rain or shine.
“When we gather for this blessing, we are reminded that God’s covenant of love extends to the whole creation,” says Rev. Desi Larson, who will lead the service in prayer and song. “This act of blessing becomes a sign of peace and reconciliation. It is a way of proclaiming that God delights in life, all life.”
Pets, whether dogs, cats, birds other other animals, must be kept on a leash or in a carrier.
For animals that have died, a picture may be shown or the pet’s name mentioned, and a prayer of remembrance will be offered.
Blessing animals was introduced by St. Francis of Assisi to illustrate that humans are only one of the many creations of God and that all are blessed in God’s eyes.
