LETTER: Whole milk benefits

Science has finally concluded, as was commonly known, that whole milk and dairy products are very beneficial for good health.

Those born in the early 1900s to the 1930s into low-income, working-class families during the depression years lived mainly on whole milk and dairy products.

The lowest-cost meat, chuck steak, was only eaten occasionally.

In my family, a common meal was spaghetti with cottage cheese, butter and ketchup.

As a teenager, I had a group of friends that hung around a candy store.

When I got thirsty, I would go to a nearby grocer and buy a quart of milk to drink while they were drinking sodas.

For the most benefit, milk and dairy products should be eaten often until at least age 21, during the body-building stage.

For those involved in athletics, a cup of whole milk, instead of water, during intermission will provide quick energy instead of waiting for some solid food to complete the digestive cycle.

Vitamin D in dairy products will help build strong bones to obtain a framework of support for the body.
