LETTER: Stern for Quilcene schools

For those of you in the Quilcene School District yet to cast your ballots, I urge you to vote for Naomi Stern, who is running for a seat on the Quilcene School Board.

This important race gives the community an opportunity to restore the school board to one focused more on student education and their preparation for successful adulthood than on political ideology.

The present school board has aggressively undertaken an agenda focused on policy changes written and promoted by external political operatives rather than exploring and discerning the needs and desires of the students, their teachers, administrators and supportive community.

The result has been a tumultuous year full of contentious meetings during which community leaders, students and even state officials have stressed the unwelcome consequences and financial risks associated with each school board proposal.

Naomi’s candidacy is a direct community response to this disturbing situation; only more of the same can be expected if her opponent is re-elected.

Naomi is a young mother with children attending Quilcene schools and embodies the community’s deep commitment to its school and its primary mission of educating our youth and preparing them for successful adult lives.

Naomi is compassionate and listens to others in a calm manner to fully understand their point of view; these are critical strengths to have on the Quilcene School Board so it can begin to repair its fractured relationship with those it is supposed to be serving.

A vote for Naomi is a vote for a brighter future for Quilcene schools.
