I notice that sidewalk wheelchair access curbing at intersections throughout town is being replaced with — wait for it — wheelchair access curbing.
Another project recently completed is the reduction of the southbound lane on south Race Street to one lane between Eighth Street and Lauridson Boulevard. This has resulted in backups, causing cars to sit through more than one red light, needlessly burning gasoline.
What used to be the right lane there is now a bike lane wide enough to drive a Mack truck on.
Peabody Street now has a stormwater catchment that takes up half the southbound lane at Fourth Street.
Fifth Street at Lincoln has curbing now that eliminates the right turn lanes.
In spite of a significant increase in vehicle traffic these last few years, these projects which impede traffic continue to occur.
If it’s road money that needs to be spent, there are lots of really deserving and more prudent ways to use it in our fair city.
Am I missing something here?
