LETTER: Put Randy Johnson to work as Clallam commissioner

Randy’s plain talk and management style have not only shown his effectiveness but garnered him a wide array of endorsements from across the spectrum.

As Peninsula Daily News publisher and editor before retiring after almost 18 years, I had many dealings with Randy Johnson, now a candidate for Clallam County commissioner.

I was always impressed by him — his plain talk and bias for action, the environmentally conscious manner in which he ran his company, his leadership of nonprofits, his coaching of youth sports.

The company he helped found in Port Angeles, Green Crow Corp., now spans wood products to real estate and reaches around the world.

And that’s because of Randy — his vision, collaborative management style and responsible budgets in good times and bad over 31 years.

He also works today as the county Economic Development Corp. president to help other local businesses.

He helped transform the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center into the Sequim YMCA.

His talents and skill sets are broad, thoughtful and innovative.

He is a uniter, not a divider.

It’s no surprise his supporters are across the spectrum — from retired state Rep. Lynn Kessler, one of our area’s best legislators ever and a Democrat, to former Commissioners Carole Boardman (Democrat), Martha Ireland (Republican) and Phil Kitchel (Republican) — and from former Port Angeles Mayors (nonpartisan) Larry Doyle, Dan Di Guilio and Glenn Wiggins to community leaders Patty and Mark Hannah, Laura O’Neal, Sandy Long, Terry Neske and Ray Gruver.

Plus Sheriff Bill Benedict, who said in a statement endorsing Johnson, “Randy has the better grasp of the criminal justice, economic and social justice challenges facing Clallam County.”

Put Randy to work for all of us in Clallam County.

Please vote for him.

John Brewer,

Port Angeles
