LETTER: Passing Sequim levy along with liberal agenda is too high a price to pay

Shortly after the school levy failed last year, the Sequim School School Board asked and invited the opposition to please come to a meeting and explain why they voted no.

They claimed to welcome a conversation.

I was encouraged by others to take the challenge.

I had a lot to say but was prepared to keep it short and to the point, as I will here.

When I attended the meeting, everyone there had to sit around and listen to the board members talk among themselves.

Not getting an opportunity to talk was disappointing.

I had wanted to explain that the teaching of “Common Core” in the Sequim School District to most of the “no” voters I talked with is one of several reasons why they can’t support this school system.

And it is not because we don’t care about kids and their education; it’s because we do.

Please understand this.

What our kids are being taught is far more important than buildings and old freezers.

If this liberal agenda and deception were to stop, I think the levy could pass, provided the tax burden would not be too stiff.

Hope Stime,

Sequim
