The federal government has shut down So what?
My second career was federal. The government shut down several times during my time with them.
The effect? None to me, as I was considered an essential worker.
The people working in the offices at our headquarters in Portland, Ore., mostly went home, deemed non-essential.
They did not receive pay during that time. But when they came back, they got back pay, effectively making the shutdown a paid vacation.
My question to you, the taxpayer, is, why do we have non-essential workers in the first place? Everything that is essential continues.
Your Social Security check still comes. Everything you rely on the federal government to do for you still happens. You still get the same poor customer service from their offices.
The only thing that may really affect us here is Olympic National Park might close its gates.
Our government shuts down, and nothing of importance really changes.
Maybe they don’t really need as much of my money as they think they do.
