Jimmy Carter was a great man who championed human rights, spoke honestly to America, forged a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, backed fair elections worldwide, worked to eradicate diseases, warned of our need to build clean energy solutions, fought against racial and gender discrimination and built housing for the disadvantaged.
As a young naval lieutenant, he played a key role at great personal danger to help contain a damaged nuclear reactor in Canada.
This is the sort of man or woman we should have as president.
Instead, we are sending to the White House a con man guilty of at least 34 felonies who backed an insurrection and stole secret government documents, a woman abuser and serial liar, with a record of over a billion dollars in bankruptcies.
A man whose comment on the death of Jimmy Carter was to complain that flags will be at half staff during his inauguration, which is financed by billionaires buying influence or government positions.
Perhaps we should think of the flags at half staff as symbolizing the death of decency, honesty and competence in the presidency.
Hold on, we are in for a rough ride for the next four years.
