In June 2023, a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Port of Port Angeles, the city of Sequim and Sequim Bay Development, LLC was circulated in which the development was seeking, among other things:
• An overall refurbishment of the marina facilities at the Port of Port Angeles’ expense. This refurbishment was estimated at the time to be about $12 million.
• 60 boat slips to be dedicated to the development.
• The development’s right to become the manager of the entire marina, either by an outright purchase, or a 99-year lease in which the development takes effective lifetime ownership of the marina.
• Rebranding of the marina, including a new name.
• The development to take possession of the existing marina office facilities at no cost.
• An agreement to revise the city of Sequim’s land use code to enable the necessary connectivity with existing streets and roads.
• An agreement to provide utility extensions to enable city water and sewer at the city’s expense.
Correspondence regarding this draft memorandum of understanding has continued through at least Feb. 5, 2024, between the parties.
There appears to be no up-to-date correspondence in the city’s public records database.
Are there ongoing current discussions or agreements regarding the management and use of the John Wayne Marina as they relate to the development?
What is the city’s intent with respect to maintaining the John Wayne Marina as a public space, and what steps will the city take to ensure the marina continues as a critical public space?
