LETTER: Impeach Trump

When U.S. Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, introduced a resolution to impeach President Donald Trump in June, I was not in favor.

Yes, Trump had launched strikes against Iran without congressional authorization, but so have several other presidents as well.

And what were the chances of success in this Congress?

Still, our own Rep. Emily Randall was among the 79 Democrats who voted to move ahead on this resolution, while all Republicans and 128 Democrats opposed it.

Randall was right.

Trump has violated the Constitution many times and in many ways, such as unlawful violations of the emoluments clauses, unlawful mobilization of military forces against civilians, illegal and unconstitutional kidnapping and imprisonment of U.S. residents and pay-to-play pardons.

We either have a constitution or we don’t. Are we ready to give it up?

These crimes are normalized when we don’t name them as a crime against the state.

Our representatives take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Impeachment is the method provided by the Constitution.

Free Speech for People, a national, nonprofit, non-partisan organization, has prepared 22 articles of impeachment and gathered a million signatures to impeach Trump again.

So while this was the first vote on impeachment, it must not be the last.

Thank you to Rep. Emily Randall. Impeach Trump again. Sign the petition.
