LETTER: Due process

Due process

I have been raised that, when you see something, you say something. Hence my letter on deportation.

First, I want to be clear that if a person has committed a crime and gone through the legal process to prove it, that person will have to serve the consequences.

The same legal process that was used for Jan. 6 people for hurting people and defacing property.

Second, I’ve heard news that the men sent to the El Salvador prison were dangerous gang members. I need to know what was the process that determined that? What is the evidence of these crimes?

I’ve heard that they had lots of tattoos. I have many friends with tattoos who are wonderful and kind people. That does not sound like a reasonable determination to me.

My plea is for people to speak out loudly and forcefully about the lack of due process.

Please don’t let our country lose the right to defend people.

Please don’t let our country slip into a place where the law is only followed when it suits someone’s needs or agenda.

I would like to see our country show grace.

I know that some folks will not like what I am saying and will look up my address and send me a threatening letter.

Another issue I am concerned with.

My first amendment rights to be able to speak my mind without being bullied by people who disagree.

But I will exercise grace.
