LETTER: Dave Neupert the superior choice for Superior Court judge

The Clallam candidate has the poise and connections to the community that the position vitally needs.

We have the opportunity to elect our next Superior Court judge for Clallam County.

In making that selection, I first look for three basic qualities: professionalism, poise and a deep knowledge and understanding of the law.

After attending several candidate forums, it is very clear to me that Dave Neupert exceeds his opponent [Brian Coughenour] in all three categories.

He has a more professional appearance and was much more poised during the debates.

I feel it is extremely important for a judge to be able to “keep his cool.”

Dave’s knowledge of the law is truly impressive.

Next, I look for someone who is well-connected to the community.

Dave was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce.

He is currently serving on the boards of Clallam County Habitat, Peninsula Behavioral Health and the United Way.

Clearly, Dave has a well-rounded connection to the community.

Finally, as a veteran, I am looking for judge who is sensitive to the special needs of veterans.

Clallam County has one of the highest per capita veterans populations in the state.

Dave’s plan for a Veterans Court is absolutely what is needed here.

Dave also worked as a pro bono attorney during the recent Voices for Veterans Stand Down.

Obviously, Dave understands the needs veterans have and is willing to work for their rights in the legal system.

After weighing the qualities it takes to be a judge, Dave Neupert is the superior choice.

Jim Moran,

Port Angeles

Moran is the former president of the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce.
