I was fortunate, mostly through notification through the Marchant family and a haphazard, if not lazy attitude approach on my part, to attend the 28th Corn Roast on Westridge Road this past Sunday. What a magnificent family-oriented event and manifestation of Port Angeles community spirit this was.
It was very well attended, with more than several hundred present while and I and my wife were there.
Admission was free other than the simple request to bring a favorite dish of your choice to share with all.
The food was fantastic. They served, in addition to the potluck items, some of the best barbecue I have ever has as well as stone-fired, baked pizzas.
Chris Leonard, the meat master, is to be commended. His culinary skills compare equally to any Kansas City barbecue joint.
The stone-fired pizzas, baked by Tom, Marty and Paul, were outstanding.
The micro-brewery beers were provided by the Peninsula Beer Club, which now has my appreciation and loyal following.
The sweet corn from Sunny Farms was delightful and reminded me of our agricultural heritage.
And the live music provided a continuous beat of moving tempo.
Bravo to you.
To all of you who volunteered and made this happen, thank you. Thank you for representing your community in the best possible light.
This exemplifies the Port Angeles that I chose to call my home 35 years ago.
I look eagerly forward to attending again next year.
