I am writing to praise our Charter Review Commission.
We are fortunate to live in a county that has had Home Rule since 1977.
We have access to their meetings in person and by Zoom. We are able to communicate freely with them by e-mail.
Time is set aside during the meeting not once, but twice, for the public to speak.
This allows time for people to speak about changes they would like to see about appointing a county coroner, the number of county commissions or a future county water supervisor.
The CRC has thoughtfully considered these issues and more topics, all citizen-driven.
Soon, the CRC will be considering which topics to submit to the ballot or to the county commissioners as future resolutions.
If you wish to write or speak to the CRC, I would suggest gathering your thoughts first. Address only agenda items and be respectful in words and tone.
Please don’t waste everyone’s time by talking about the United Nations, global networks or saying inflammatory things about other organizations.
Security is present, so you will feel safe while participating in the democratic process.
Instead, relish our right to have local input into our ballot process.
Participate as much as you can as long as we are allowed to have Home Rule.
The meeting dates and times are noted in our Clallam County website.
The subcommittees are during the day, and the CRC meetings are in the evening. Both meet at the courthouse.
