She wants you to get your cardio in while you apply your face cream

Salma Hayek is someone who just exudes joy. Her skin literally glows, her smile makes you smile, and she seems like an all-around good time gal.

That’s why we love her beauty & wellness rituals – they’re as enjoyable as they are effective. They may not be for everyone (you’ll have to pry the morning cleanser out of our sudsy hands), but they’re certainly creative.

And hell, we’ll definitely be giving at least a few a try…

Salma Hayek’s Beauty & Wellness Tips

#1: Dancing as exercise

Salma’s approach to movement? Literally just moving her body – to music, of course. “When it comes to wellness, dancing is my ritual. I dance every day”, she explained in a conversation with The Cut. “When they were doing my makeup. They played Bad Bunny, and I said, “Sorry, I need to take a break.” I listen to my body; it’s not a robot. I listen, and I pay attention,” she shared. Look, when the track calls for it, you simply have to get up – we don’t make the rules, Salma does.

#2: A playlist-enhanced cleanse

Speaking of music, Salma also relies on a soundtrack when it comes to removing her daily face. “Sometimes, I put on music when I take off my makeup at night”, she noted. “It’s all about pleasure. It’s all about looking for joy in everything we do. That’s part of self-care: allowing yourself to be you and be present”.

#3: A movement-moisturiser combo

It’s clear Salma is a big multitasker – she even gets movement in whilst applying her skin care. “I try to exercise while I’m putting on my cream”, she explained. “Stretch the muscles, it’s an organic way of working out. That’s what my rituals look like, non-robotic.”

She wants you to take the time to indulge in the sensory experience as well: “Enjoy putting the cream on, massaging your face, and putting the cream on your body”.

Salma didn’t spill exactly which cream she’s slathering on currently, but she’s previously admitted to being a big fan of the Del Indio Papago Facial Night Skin Cream with Tepezcohuite ($39.15 at Amazon).

#4: Skipping the morning face wash

Salma isn’t one to opt for a cleanse fresh from bed. “I don’t wash my face in the morning because why would it get dirty while I’m sleeping?”, she mused.

#5: Prioritising hair texture over colour

A completely touched-up head of hair colour isn’t as important to Salma as her texture bouncing and behaving the way she likes. “If I dye my hair to hide the color, the texture of my hair is awful. I cannot just walk out of the shower”, Salma explained. “It starts getting frizzy in a strange way, and it’s not healthy and doesn’t look good.” FYI, though, she does have a cracker hack for disguising greys without dye… She sure is crafty. And we think the results confirm her hacks are worth a whirl…
