What is kombucha?
Kombucha is a fermented tea drink that originated in Asia. It’s made from a base of either black or green tea and is fermented with a culture of bacteria and yeast (also known as SCOBY or symbiotic culture of acetic acid bacteria and yeast). Sugar, flavouring and juice are sometimes added in, too.
Should we drink kombucha?
There are lots of claims out there about kombucha and more studies need to be done on the extent of its benefits. But basically, like yoghurt and other fermented foods, unpasteurized or raw kombucha contains live bacteria (probiotics). And probiotics are good for our gut health because they can increase the good bugs in our gut and fight off the bad.

While the best way to ensure good gut health is to eat a clean and healthy diet, kombucha can still be a healthy alternative to soft drinks and alcohol. It tends to be low in calories (the three below average around 30). So you can stay social, get your fix of bubbles and still stick to your shred!
