Emma Stone Calls Shaving Her Head The “Easiest Thing Ever” And Here’s Why

Emma Stone has truly been teaching a masterclass in growing out a buzzcut these past few months.

After shaving her head for her new film, Bugonia, Emma has been highlighting exactly how to take the awkwardness out of the different stages of a pixie cut.

Emma Stone Shaved Head

In case you were wondering (because we were too), here’s a glimpse at Emma in Bugonia, shaved head and all.

Spoiler alert: when Emma’s character is kidnapped within the film, her conspiracy theorist kidnappers shave her head in the back of a car. And yes, it was filmed live. Talk about pressure to get the shot!

Now with the film’s release at the Venice International Film Festival, Emma is being quizzed about the personal experience of shaving her head.

However, she isn’t keen on focusing on the vanity side. When a reporter asked her whether it was easy for her to shave her hair, Emma quipped back. “That’s the easiest thing ever, you just take the razor.”

She did clarify that her buzzcut era made her hair routine simple, calling it “so much easier than any hairstyle”, but was focused on steering the conversation away from the haircut.

Emma’s response did raise some questions in the comments about whether women should have to discuss the physical transformations required for roles or not. “This is such a masterclass in expanding on a shallow question to talk about the depth of acting and the work that goes into it”, one commenter wrote.

Another focused on the fact that the question was more about the emotional experience of shaving your head than intentionally framed to be about vanity. “Am I the only one who thinks that’s a fair question? A lot of women would struggle with having to do that.”

That’s definitely true, however, for some (like Emma, it seems), it’s apparently not a big deal. To each their own!

Emma Stone Pixie Cut

What isn’t up for debate is how stunning Emma has looked at every step of the growing out journey. From her initial pixie debut at the Golden Globes to the way she’s been styling it at the Venice Film Festival, it’s all been great.

In fact, there’s something about Emma’s nonchalant response and the fact that the cut has grown out so gracefully that is kind of convincing us to try a buzzcut someday, film role or not. Tempting, right?

  1. I’m definitely someone who’d struggle with shaving my head. I think given the way it was done in the movie – and the impact on the character – it was fair for her to be asked about the impact on her.

  2. I would love to have really short hair for the practicality of it, but I just don’t think it would suit me. Emma (Emily) Stone often takes on challenging roles.
