Let’s be very clear. The myths and rumours that surround ‘supermarket’ shampoos are here to be busted. Long gone are the days where picking up a bottle of the cleansing stuff in your weekly shop meant sacrificing your strands. Now, the likes of John Frieda have joined the shelves and your hair can rejoice. This biotin-infused thickening shampoo works to thicken your strands, protecting them from the inside out. It even works to enrich your mane with a helping of hydration thanks to hyaluronic acid.
Review: “This product really took me by surprise. I was not blessed in the hair department and have always had extremely fine textured hair which is so difficult to manage. I have tried a million products to thicken, plump and bodify, but to no avail. Then this one came along. As I said, I was a bit sceptical, but I really did feel a change in the overall texture and thickness of my hair. I used this in conjunction with the thickening conditioner and the thickening spray, and the three together were an awesome team. Well priced, easily available and actually work really well! I am officially converted. — CP2000, bh member

This dermatologically-tested shampoo is here to shake up the hair care game, and give you a few more dollars to rattle around in your wallet.
Review: “So long story short, I am pregnant at the moment, and my hormones have made it almost impossible to use scented products. I have a lot of full bottles of shampoos and body washes in my bathroom, and I am unable to use them due to the smell! I decided to purchase this shampoo in my Rewards Room haul, because I figured I would either try it out or my husband could use it if I couldn’t stomach the scent. IT IS A MIRACLE! I’ve been washing my hair with this for about a fortnight now, and LOVE that it doesn’t make me feel sick! I know it’s a weird situation, but it smells so good. It gets the job done, which is a huge win in my books. Plus, I also love the results… my hair has been dull due to the change in hormones and this gives it a nice shine and bounce. Not heavy or anything, doesn’t feel like my hair is coated with anything as it is silicone free. I love that there are no parabens in it either as we are all looking for more natural products right?” — ieshabunny, bh member

Which supermarket shampoo is your favourite?
So far I can only use the Dermal Therapy shampoo. Everything else irritates my scalp
Is it good for oily hair and dandruff? There’s a competition currently running for Dermal Therapy haircare range and it sounds really good.
Dermal Therapy is really a good product.
The supermarket sells a lot of good brands . I have bought a lot of great shampoos from the supermarket.
Elive and Head and Shoulders are both really good products
Ogx gets my vote of these
I often buy Head and shoulders.
I haven’t ever tried these brands, but you can find good brands i the supermarket.
I found the OGX Argan Shampoo to leave my hair a bit oily over time, but do like the Elvive range!
Having completely grey hair now, that I subtly tint blonde. I love to use a purple shampoo. I always wait until the better brands are on special at the supermarket.
I love fudge or John Frieda. etc.
I like John Frieda as well.
At $4.50 at Chemist Warehouse L’Oréal Paris Colour Protect Elvive Colour Protect Shampoo is a real bargan. Must remember to look out for some
John Frieda and Toni and Guy are some of my favourites.
Love the Toni & Guy Strength Plex Bond Repair Range. Really good!!
I also recommend this in winter ! I agreed that it’s work well ! https://www.ssmsmart-square.com
So many choices!
I keep three different shampoos and conditioners going at a time, on rotation. I find that best for my hair. I’ve never tried Maui Moisture so I think another trip to Chemist Warehouse is in order. My current fave is Aveeno.
The thing that I have found with cheaper shampoos is that you need to use more to get that lather. Often times I think it is better to spend more and have a better quality product that will last sometimes three times the number of washes so when you work it out as a per wash thing the more expensive product can work out to be better value.
I honestly never have this issue but always check the ingredients list. You need the right sulfates for a good lather. I’ve tried a lot of expensive shampoos that were sulfate free and no lather at all.
I use the Garnier Fructis and OGX from time to time.
I wouldn’t use these. Maybe only Aveeno but would need to try it.
I own quite a few of these products already, good to see them listed here
I have used a few of these shampoos but Aveeno I used for over 4 years but since they changed the packaging, something is different in the ingredients as well. It now lathers way too much for being sulphate free and the thick cream is now really runny so I had to stop using it. It’s a shame as it was wonderful for my hair before the change of packaging.
When I was blonde Fudge Professional Clean Blonde Toning Purple Shampoo was the best! I also love the huge 1L bottle of TRESemme pump packs especially the Cleanse & Replenish for my oily hair and using as my first wash (or the entire family) it lasts forever and is on sale for $4! Chemist Warehouse have some amazing ones I’ve just added to my list including the Redken dupes from L’Oreal and Dercos range for oily hair and dandruff! I always check the ingredients though as that’s the most important 💖
Yes, to the TRESemmé Cleanse & Replenish! My all-time fave!
Love Ogx
Yes to everything except Head and Shoulders
I might try the JOhn Frieda thickening shampoo. It sounds like it might meet my current needs.
I’ve used some of those products. I don’t mind using John Frieda because it suits my hair.
some good natural brands now too in the supermarket
Yes I have had no problem with these shampoos -A lot of very good brands
This reminds me, I’ve got to review that Batiste dry shampoo.
I have uses a few of these and they have all been really nice.
I usually used medicated and herbal shampoo that really make me feel better about my hair..
I think it maybe time to change my shampoo. My hair seems so oily these days and am having to wash it more and more regularly. ??
Just because a supermarket sells a product doesn’t reduce the quality !!
I think I have been sleeping on SheaMoisture.
Am trying to choose a new shampoo and am thinkin the Garnier Fructis Normal Strength & Shine Shampoo is good value and worth a try.
John Frieda appeals to me
I agree with these picks. I would also add Tresemme which works wonderfully on my hair.
I have used the L’Oreal and the Garner one and they were both really good shampoos.I am not snobby about where I buy stuff as long as it is good.
I have previously used Garnier Fructis Normal Strength & Shine Shampoo and I agree it is a good shampoo.
I’ve used some of these – Maui and Argan Oil. It’s good seeing more choice in supermarkets now
I love the smell of Garnier Fructis but it doesn’t leave my hair feeling as nourished and controlled as I’d like. I am a fan of John Frieda products though.
so many lovely choices
I’m not fussed about what shampoo I use as long as it’s sulphate free.
All the John Frieda ranges are excellent value for money.
A few shampoos on the list I haven’t tried but will buy Aveeno Oat Milk Blend Moisturising Shampoo next.
