I always prefer and read the organic ones in the stores. It makes me feel confident in using it since it’s toxic-free.

I always read the ingredients. I’ve seen many items tagged as “organic” which are packed with SLS, mineral oils, parabens, etc (all stuff I try to avoid). Clean beauty has no meaning really. Same with Natural. I do try to avoid certain chemicals but the labels don’t help me do that. I did used to think that Organic was the safest and I’ve been disappointed by products that call themselves organic without any justification. I don’t believe there’s much in the way of regulation about these labels. To my mind it pays to read the label and get to know how to recognise the ingredients you don’t want in your products (and its also nice to see the ingredients you do want).

Organic brands and natural brands should be free of chemical toxins like parabens, SLS, synthetic fragrances and artificial colour. Vegan makeup and skincare products do not have any animal produce, which is difficult as honey, dairy, lactic acid, biotin and lanolin are all derived from animals.

Clean beauty isn’t a term I really connect with, clean is what cleanser/shampoo/detergent is for. Natural—i expect natural ingredients, derived from plants, earth, etc, not created in a lab; organic—should be natural ingredients, grown without pesticides and manufactured without the use of synthetic chemical processes too.

I think the word ‘Clean’ is overused. I think of clean house, clean dishes, clean hair but not clean beauty or clean food.
Organic is overdone. I don’t think there is an Australian standard for Organic. We all think no chemicals but some are organic.
Natural. It comes from the Earth. But so does uranium.
    Yes I’m cynical.

I’ve never heard the term clean beauty. I think I agree with Meedee’s explanation. I don’t buy natural beauty – I generally think it is just a marketing term but I assume organic products means that the majority of products must be organic.

I also like to purchase products which are Australian made.

Interesting question! I feel that Clean beauty gives the impression of very fresh and youthful beauty, potentially using some chemicals in the process, whereas Natural beauty are products that include ‘natural’ ingredients originating from plants. Organic beauty is much more specific, having all of its ingredients meeting organic industry standards.

For me the term Organic would resonate the most, as it actually indicates something quite significant, whereas anything can call itself ‘Natural’ when it might just have 1% non-artificial ingredients.

However I don’t personally mind if my products are natural/organic or chemical-based when shopping.

Well, sorry about all the typos. I can’t find the edit button!

There are limits to editing: the post must still appear on page 1 of a thread & the replies filter must be on “All”. You can’t edit posts that are only visible after adjusting the reply filter. 🙁

    Hi Laura

I need non-toxic products due to a health issue. So for me, any labels to say Clean/Natural does not neccesary mean they have non-toxic ingredients , but Organic means it has natural ingredients only ie, herbs, essential oils etc which is not mixed in with any chemicals. I look for packaging so if its stored for example in a tinted or non-transparent jar. bottle, tube etc then I know the brand has true organic ingredients. Hence I read the ingredients on all beauty products before considering .
