scented wax melts

I love my essential oils and vapouriser. But was looking at alternatives as well.

Recently I bought some Scentsy brand wax melts from my niece who sells it. However having read up on them a bit more I am not sure about the whole paraffin. From what i can gather Paraffin candles aren’t great for our health on a regular basis but I am unsure if wax melts, that have no wik, fall into the same category. As there is no soot.

Also the Scentsy ones are perfumed oils which we know is not the same as essential oils. In our other essential oils thread a year or so ago we discussed the benefits of using essential oils. Perfumed oils/ fragrance oils are for the most part made out of well I don’t really know what LOL! But not necessarily beneficial for us and some could be possibly detrimental with regular use. Non scientific statement obviously.

Anyone up for a discussion on the positive / negative side effects of beeswax, soy wax, paraffin wax other wax melts. This is only for wax melts so not candles. Based on personal experience, knowledge and so on 🙂

Hey! That’s a great question. I’ve also been curious about the health differences between various wax melts, especially since they don’t have a wick like candles do. It’s tough https://www.aes-success.org to figure out if paraffin wax is still a concern without the soot.

I was given a Scentsy warmer for Christmas, I also have a couple of the Air-Wick one’s as well. My Air-Wick warmer gets a little hot, but my Scentsy one doesn’t. I never knew about the Paraffin candles being bad for you, guess I will stick to the soy melts!

I’ve heard that the soy based candles are the most natural ones to have. I’ve tried lots of Companies over the years and have found that the be enlightened range to be the best. They are not only great smelling and long lasting but they also have lead free cotton wicks and are made with natural essential oils, (sounds good to me).

I buy from here and you only need a 5kg bag for melts 🙂 https://www.eroma.com.au/candle-making-supplies/candle-wax/soy-candle-wax/

Melts are sooo easy to make and you save yourself lots of money . You melt it in the microwave, weigh, add 8% of fragrance and then pour into mould. I prefer to use soy so most of the time I pour into a little plastic melt tray.

I don’t use electric melters so I put my burner in the freezer for a couple of minutes after the wax has cooled and the pop out when it’s solid. If I don’t have time to do this I just pour it into something while it is still hot. Then I wipe it out with paper towel.

Thanks, very interesting idea, will try one day :))
But where do you buy soy and how much is cost?

I’ve used them once, they leave the wax there and it makes it difficult to clean.

I saw Air-Wick electrical melter for half-price ($7) at Coles near month ago. Of course I grabbed it ever without asked mysel “do I really need it?” Unfortunately all wax melts was original price ($7-8 for pack) so I bought just one – Sweet Hazelnut Charm (sugar maple & hazelnut crisp). It’ marvelous! Smell is nice and reminds me bakery and chai. Later I bought wax melt Glade Radiant Berries. Smell is nice but not strong.

I don’t know how it is good or bad for my health and prefer don’t think about it. I just enjoy and relax…

Curious if I can put pure water with a few drops of my favorite assencial oil on this dish…

P.S. Don’ know how rotate picture, sorry :((

Hey make sure you review your circa home products here too! The melts and burner don’t seem to have been reviewed so you will get double points 😉
