PORT TOWNSEND — Artists working in all media are invited to enter their creations in “Small Expressions,” Northwind Art’s big show of small works.
“The juried exhibition is tailored to the gift-giving season, with artworks that are relatively compact, affordable and easy to wrap and ship,” Northwind spokesperson Diane Urbani said.
Oct. 12 is the deadline for artists to enter up to seven works via the application portal, which can be found at NorthwindArt.org. Each piece must be no larger than 16 inches in any direction, including frame and mount.
“Small Expressions,” an annual show, will open Nov. 20 at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery, 701 Water St., and stay on view through Jan. 5. The downtown Port Townsend venue is open from noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays, with additional hours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the First Saturday Art Walk on Dec. 6.
“The variety of art in ‘Small Expressions’ dazzles gallery-goers,” Urbani said.
“In recent years, there have been one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, papier-maché masks, plein air paintings, quilts, embroidery, photography, assemblage animals and beyond.”
“Small Expressions” is one of Northwind Art’s most popular events, said Urbani, who added that it gives art lovers a chance to choose singular, handmade gifts while supporting local artists.
Throughout the show, as artworks are purchased, new works by the selected artists will be rotated in. So “Small Expressions” is a dynamic creature, with different combinations of art in the gallery as the weeks go by.
Artists from the Olympic Peninsula and Puget Sound region are encouraged to enter “Small Expressions.” Those from farther afield also may enter, but all who are selected are required to deliver and pick up their artworks at Jeanette Best Gallery. Northwind does not ship the selected artworks.
One piece will be selected for the Jurors’ Choice prize of $500, Urbani said.
