PORT ANGELES — A Seattle woman has been sentenced to 12-plus months in prison following a guilty plea to felony DUI, the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said.
Engre Brown, 44, will serve 12 months of community custody following her sentence during which she will be required to be enrolled in substance use disorder treatment. She also will be prohibited from driving, the prosecuting attorney’s office said.
At about 7:30 p.m. May 11, State Patrol Trooper Daniel Menihane saw Brown driving about 100 mph on U.S. Highway 101 near Carlsborg. Menihane caught up with Brown as she waited to turn left toward Carlsborg Road, the prosecuting attorney’s office said.
Brown had difficulty parking her car, and Menihane saw she had bloodshot and watery eyes and a blank look on her face, the prosecuting attorney’s office said. Menihane also noticed a can of White Claw hard seltzer in the car, prosecutors added.
Brown denied drinking, but a blood analysis showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.21 percent, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, the prosecuting attorney’s office said.
Brown’s criminal history includes a vehicular homicide conviction from a 2008 crash on Highway 101 near Kitchen-Dick Road as well as a previous DUI conviction and two gross misdemeanors amended from DUIs, the prosecuting attorney’s office said.
The standard sentencing range under state law was 12 to 14 months in prison, prosecutors said.
“Ms. Brown clearly poses a danger to herself and others,” deputy prosecuting attorney Steven Johnson stated in a press release.
