PORT ANGELES — A woman who was the primary suspect in a murder case from 2016 is in custody after the Port Angeles Police Department reopened the case last year.
Tina Marie Alcorn, 54, of Phillips County, Ark., was extradited to Port Angeles on Monday and was being held in the Clallam County jail on Tuesday afternoon.
She was sought in connection with the homicide of George Cecil David, a master woodcarver originally from Port Alberni, British Columbia, who was living in Neah Bay at the time of his death, the Port Angeles Police Department (PAPD) stated in a press release Tuesday.
David, 65, was found dead on March 28, 2016, in a Port Angeles apartment where he had been staying temporarily. He had traveled from Neah Bay just days earlier, intending to visit family in British Columbia and attend a funeral.
At the request of the PAPD and with the support of the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the state Attorney General’s Office plans to file criminal charges in the case, the PAPD stated in the press release.
Alcorn, who has ties to Clallam County, was identified early in the investigation as the primary suspect, the PAPD said.
On April 19, 2016, PAPD detectives located and arrested her in Mount Vernon on an outstanding warrant issued by Arkansas authorities. They transported her to the Clallam County jail, where she remained in custody.
Although charges in the David homicide were not filed at that time, Alcorn was later extradited to Arkansas and jailed for violating the conditions of her probation on an unrelated felony theft conviction.
Last year, the PAPD reopened the case partnered with the state Attorney General’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People (MMIWP) Task Force. The task force provided critical support in advancing the investigation, offering culturally informed resources and victim advocacy in this matter of deep importance to Native and cross-border communities, the press release stated.
“This case has never been forgotten,” sPort Angeles Police Chief Brian S. Smith said in the release. “The renewed investigation, bolstered by our partnership with the MMIWP Task Force, reflects our commitment to justice and to honoring George David’s memory.”
Alcorn waived extradition and was transported to the Clallam County jail by a PAPD detective and officer team following coordination with officials in Phillips County, Ark.
