Sheriff’s Office: Port Angeles woman jailed after high-speed chase

Vehicle went airborne after striking stump

PORT ANGELES — A 22-year-old Port Angeles woman was transported Saturday from Olympic Medical Center to the Clallam County jail after a high-speed chase that ended with her crashing her vehicle, authorities said.

Shamekah Cheyanne Iverson was booked for investigation of attempting to elude, reckless driving and driving while license suspended, according to a Clallam County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The incident began Saturday morning after Sheriff’s Sgt. John Hollis ran the license plate on a Buick stopped at a stop sign at Pioneer Road and Gales Street east of Port Angeles that was registered to a Honda.

According to the press release, the driver ran a stop light and was chased by Hollis, speeding toward, then on, Monroe Road when it left the roadway at the 2800 block, hitting a 3-foot-wide stump and going airborne before landing a few feet away. The pursuit lasted about 3 minutes.

The driver was identified as Iverson, who was transported to OMC for observation.

Iverson had an outstanding state Department of Corrections warrant growing out of a Jan. 31, 2018 guilty plea under which she was sentenced to 30 days as a first-time offender, according to Superior Court records.

Iverson had pleaded guilty plea to possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle.
