Sequim police led on high-speed chase

SEQUIM — A woman driving with expired tabs led Sequim police on a brief high-speed chase on U.S. Highway 101 on Sunday, Detective Sgt. Sean Madison said.

The unidentified woman reached speeds of about 100 mph in a 2000 Mercury Cougar as she traveled eastbound on the highway, Madison said Monday.

Dispatchers received a report of a fleeing vehicle at River Road and Highway 101 at 4:16 p.m. Sunday, according to the Peninsula Communications log.

The pursuing officer discontinued the chase about a half-mile east of the Sequim Avenue exit.

The chase was discontinued based on the nature of the originating offense, the time of day and the speed of the pursuit, Madison said.

“It was prudent,” Madison said.

“The speeds were such that the officer just discontinued it. We believe we know who the driver was.”

The chase originated at the Home Depot store on West Washington Street. It lasted about 2½ minutes, Madison said.
