Sequim man receives 15-year sentence after pleading guilty to sex crimes

SEQUIM — A Sequim man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sex crimes.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge Erik Rohrer sentenced Charles David Gahimer of Sequim to 180 months in prison last Wednesday.

The sentence followed Gahimer’s previous guilty plea to one count each of sexual exploitation of a minor, dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in the second degree and possessing depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in the first degree.

Detective Devin McBride of the Sequim Police Department investigated a report of a possible sex offense committed at Gahimer’s residence in Sequim in January 2016, according to a probable cause statement filed in court.

A digital video camcorder seized by search warrant contained video recordings of Gahimer and a prepubescent male engaged in sexual activity, police said.

Upon release from prison, Gahimer will be subject to 36 months of community custody with the Department of Corrections.

Numerous supervision conditions include no possession or use of internet-capable devices, no possession of alcohol or controlled substances unless prescribed and no contact with minors younger than 18.

A sexual assault protection order also was entered that prohibits Gahimer from having any contact with the child victim for the next 10 years.

Gahimer previously had been convicted of rape of a child in the first degree and of dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Those offenses resulted in a treatment-based Sex Offender Sentencing Alternative sentence (SSOSA), rather than a custodial sentence.
